The work is float mounted and possibly stuck to the backboard. Slight time staining throughout. A brown thumb sized mark below the man's head to the right edge. Handling crease lower left edge below the boy and one lower right edge below the man. The odd sporadic tiny sized scattered foxing spots in places. Small brown mark to the back of the figure second from the left. Some light surface dirt and debris trapped under the glass. Larger foxing spots to the backboard. Not examined out of the frame.

Amongst a strong section of Northern art in the sale is a small family collection of drawings by the great L.S. Lowry (1887-1976); the three works were given by Lowry to Ruth and Neville Blakey of Pendle, Lancashire, longstanding friends of the artist, and will be sold with correspondance with the Lowry. Further Northern artists represented in the sale include Harold Riley, Peter Brook, Brian 'Braaq' Shields, Norman Cornish, and Len Tabner.
Further highlights include a vivid seascape by Scottish artist Sir William MacTaggart, a harbour scene by Chinese-born Singaporean artist Cheong Soo Pieng who founded the Nanyang style of art, and a striking industrial landscape by Staffordshire artist Maurice Wade.
An interesting selection of works on paper include greats such as Frank Dobson, Dame Laura Knight, David Bomberg, Sir Matthew Smith, and a good range of prints include those by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro, Elizabeth Blackadder, Bob Dylan and Victor Pasmore.
