A Late 18th Century Black Painted Cast Iron Small Naval Cannon, three and a half pound, the 62cm two stage barrel with two raised bands, with Armstrong pattern cascabel and cylindrical trunnions, on a later wood carriage. Internal length of barrel to touch hole 61.5cm, overall length including cascabel 81cm, width over trunnions 18cm
**Salvaged from the wreck of HMS Venerable which sank in Torbay Harbour in 1804 during a storm. HMS Venerable was a 74-gun third rate ship of the line and served as Admiral Duncan's flagship at the Battle of Camperdown, 11th October 1797
