Lionel Bulmer (1919-1992)
"Beach Scene, Seaton Crew"
Oil on board, 51cm by 61cm
The board is float mounted revealing the outer edges which are quite tatty with lots of chips and small losses. Some light surface dirt. Sporadic areas of retouching within the sky and sea and a long vertical area through the sea down into the central smaller cluster of deckchairs where something has been spilt on the painting? More evident with uv (see image). Areas where the paint is thin by application exposing areas of the back board. Also the piece has been squared up in pencil behind the paint which is exposed in some areas, in particular to the central figure group and below this. Two small nicks to the deckchair lower left corner and one small area of paint loss to the corner of the green deckchair right corner. (see images).
