Royal Interest: An Exceptionally Rare Cravat Pin, a circular panel painted with the portrait of Prince Albert, within a border of laurel leaves set with seed pearls, on a straight pin with centre twist, with a fancy chain link safety to a secondary pin with centre twist, main pin measures 2.6cm by 7.8cm, contained in the original fitted case, by M. Rettie & Sons of Aberdeen

Inscription to the reverse: ALBERT FROM V.R. 1866

Provenance: an informal gift to Dr Andrew Robertson, thence by descent

Sold for £6,000
Estimated at £3,000 - £5,000

The pin is in good condition. The portrait has a fine scratch to 9 o'clock, and a tiny repainted frame on his hear. It bears not hallmark, but in our opinion would test as gold. Gross weight 7.1 grams. 141111
