A Good Oak Thirty Hour Longcase Clock with Lunar Indication, signed Jonas Barber, Winster, numbered 561, circa 1762, broken arched pediment, turned columns, wavy shaped trunk door flanked by fluted pilasters, plain plinth with canted corners, 11-inch square brass dial with Roman and Arabic signed chapter ring, engraved scroll dial centre with lunar and date apertures, four pillar movement with anchor escapement and outside countwheel striking on a bell, latched pillars, movement frontplate numbered 561, 212cm high see illustration

Jonas Barber Jnr was born c.1718-20 and continued the family business at Winster until his death in 1802, aged 82. He was one of the finest clockmakers in the North West, his work being of a very high standard, even in his thirty hour clocks. This example, number 561, is recorded and listed in Cave-Brown-Cave (BW) Jonas Barber Clockmaker of Winster , pg.230, where he lists the lives and work of the Barber family. 31.05.17, Hood with some replaced parts, later finials, hood capitals have been painted with gilt paint, capitals with small woodworm holes which are not active, case has been cleaned, trunk door is slightly bowed, later feet, movement is complete, with pendulum and weight.
