Lieutenant Richard Lawson Williamson R.N (Fleet Air Arm), D.S.O and Bar:- an Interesting Collection of Photographs and Ephemera, including numerous hand written letters to and from his parents, Engineer Rear Admiral and Mrs Williamson, a portrait photograph of him and another of his father in a silver frame, a number of Admiralty Testimonials relating to him, various newspaper cuttings, a typed record of his service, and a plastic cased survival kit including matches, an escape compass, water purifying tablets, a heliograph etc.

Footnote :- Richard Lawson Williamson attended the Royal Naval College in Dartmouth from 1927 until 1931, joining the Fleet Air Arm in 1936. He took part in the evacuation of Dunkirk, where he was mentioned in despatches, and later awarded the D.S.O. for raids on Persamo and Kirkenes. After spending six months in Malta, his service gained him a bar to his D.S.O. He was killed in action over the English Channel in October 1942 along with Navigator Sub Lieutenant Owen Norman, and is remembered on the Lee-on-the-Solent War Memorial.

The sale will offer a range of good medals, including a rare silver medal struck to commemorate the death of Captain James Cook, and a Second World War MM Group of Eight Medals, awarded to Corporal Frank Shepherd of the 1st-5th Battalion the Queen’s Royal Regiment.

Amongst a good offering of militaria in the sale is a Victorian 1847 Pattern Gilt Brass Helmet to an Officer 4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards, a First World War Cameron Highlander’s Kilt and Sash which belonged to Private George Potts Brown, and an Early 19th Century Naval Officer’s Dirk.

A rare 19th Century Percussion Single Barrel Big Game Rifle by William Powell & Son of Birmingham leads a selection of fine guns in the sale, also of note are a Pair of 19th Century 40 Bore Side-by-Side Double Barrel Percussion Travelling Pistols.
