Provenance: The artist was the great aunt of the vendor

Drawn by the artist on Derby Day 1901, showing the carriage horses used to transport members of the public to the course.

Best known for her paintings of horses and riders, Kemp-Welch was born near Bournemouth, and studied at Bournemouth School of Art and the Herkomer School, Bushey, where she was principal 1907-1926. She worked as part of the St Ives colony between 1901-10 and is represented in many public collections

It appears to be in a good state of preservation, there is however a small yellow stain in the lower right corner approximately 11.5cm from the lower right corner of the mount, with a further mark in the lower right corner and a small fox stain just above the signature on the left. Contained within a washline cream card mount and plain outer gilt frame under glass (010212)
