The Shell was donated to charity by Mr Jarman, the former chairman of the Tennyson Society, it was housed within Freshwater Court, a lodge attached to Farringdon House former home of Alfred, Lord Tennyson, the lodge apparently was decorated with gifts the Poet was not fond of
