Portrait of a young fashionable lady, half-length, wearing a black hat decorated with white feathers and pearls, an aquamarine and pink satin dress and bodice trimmed with lace, in a feigned oval
Bears inscribed label verso "Miss Fen***. Granddaughter to John Wedgewood Esq of Harra***, drawn in the year 1755", 74cm by 61cm

See Illustration

Sold for £1,400
Estimated at £800 - £1,200

In fully restored condition re-lined, cleaned and re-varnished. The majority of the left hand side of her hair has been re-painted and general outline of her figure has been strengthened. The left hand side of her bodice also shows signed of having been re-painted. There has been relatively consistent re-touching and infilling across her chest, presumably to replace flaked paint. The definition and shadows within the right hand side of her bodice have also been strengthened. General re-touching to edges, likely repair lower left hand corner within the oval, the surface is slightly flat and thin in places from the restoration process, covered in fine to large sized stable craquelure, some surface dirt otherwise in reasonable/good order.
