This remarkable pair of paintings depicting Modena Pigeons are believed to be part of a series of four paintings produced by Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe for the noted aviculturist John Sears.
Tunnicliffe also produced a great many drawings of pigeons, following a commission from renowned pigeon fancier Thomas Forsaw (reputedly there were as many as 400 pigeons in his collection at it's height), with a view to producing a comprehensive illustrated publication on the subject. Due to the publishers withdrawing from the production, the literature was never produced, but some of the drawings now form part of the collection of the Tunnicliffe Museum, Anglesey.

Each in good overall condition, some surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Not examined with a UV light.
