The Bedale Association for the Protection of Property and Prevention of Crime Minute Book, 1841, folio ledger, commencing with two printed leaves of minutes of the meeting held at the Magistrates Room in Bedale on the 12th of January 1841 for the purpose of forming an Association for the Protection of Property and Prevention of Crime, as well as a further meeting of the 9th February 1841 which approved the provision of a mounted policeman. Two further pages of manuscript minutes are followed by 75 pages which give the details of Subscribers in approximately 50 settlements with their acreage and subscriptions. The area covered includes, Aiskew, Burton-Constable, Catterick, Colburn, Crakehall, East Witton, Hipswell, Hornby, Kirkby Fleetham, Snape, Spennithorne and West Tanfield. Unfortunately someone in the 1940s has used blank spaces in the ledger to record their accounts. Original marbled boards with morocco label, later functional half sheep
