Adam Buck (1759-1833) Irish
Portrait of a gentleman sitting at a desk in an interior
Signed and dated 1809, watercolour, 35.5cm by 28cm
Sold for £650
Estimated at £400 - £600
Significant staining across sheet with notable bleaching or fading to colour. Various foxing spots some of which look to have undergone some restoration or form of disguising particularly within the sky area above and behind the sitter's head. Diagonal creases approx centre left-hand side edge running full width of sheet but less notable toward right-hand side edge. Some further likely infilling with chalky white paint to disguise the creasing around the lower right-hand corner of the window within the sky. Further creasing to upper left-hand corner. Odd surface scuff. No evidence of cockling. Nor examined out of the frame.
