A Walnut Eight Day Longcase Clock, signed Joseph Williamson, London, circa 1695, caddied pediment, glazed side panels, moulded trunk door with glass lenticle, 11-inch square brass dial with a silvered Arabic and Roman chapter ring signed, matted dial centre with scroll and ringed engraved decoration, date aperture and seconds, ringed winding holes, five pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel striking on a bell, 223cm high

Joseph Williamson was an eminent watch and clock maker in the late 17th/early 18th century. Apprenticed in 1686 and became Master of the Clockmakers Company in 1724.
He was the watchmaker to the King of Spain and claimed the invention of equation mechanism in a paper to the Royal Society. His watches and clocks are exhibited in several collections around the world today.

09.10.14, Case has been re-veneered in parts and the veneers are polished, mouldings are re-ebonised, hood door with a later side latch, small dents and scuff marks in places, some small chips to veneers, later skirting to plinth, trunk door slightly bowed, dial and movement are clean.
