Annie Recalls - "We aquired this set from Mr Appleby who was the head keeper at Woburn Abbey, this species of deer is a successful breed at Woburn and had aquired interest from breeders in China. Correspondence between China and Woburn ensued, and His Grace the Duke of Bedford readied himself for a trip to China to advise the process, alas, it was not his Grace whom was required, but Mr Appleby who had continued the successful breeding programme at Woburn. The Père David's Deer are a sacred animal in China, hence the interest to re-introduce the species back into the country".

Sold for £300
