A Japanese Shin Shinto Wakizashi, the 38.5cm unsigned blade with undulating hamon, two piece polished horn habaki, the ivory tsuba carved as a flattened chrysanthemum head and incised with undulating tendrils, the Japanese Rosewood tsuka with ivory kashira carved as a maiden and the fuchi carved with mons and tendrils, with matching Japanese Rosewood saya with signed blade to the inset kozuka, the whole with shibyama type decoration of frog on a water lily, stylised turtles, seed pods and leaves in coloured hardstones and mother of pearl, with dragon carved ivory kurikata and maiden carved kojiri, with pale gold coloured cord and tassels, 56.5cm

. Tang of blade is unsigned. Small areas of delamination and black patches with nicks to edge of blade. The saya is missing a piece of inlay to one side, the opposing side is missing the mount to the mouth of the slot for the kozuka. Lovely quality.
