Taxidermy: A Wall Cased Very Rare Albino Grey Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis), circa 2016, by A.J. Armitstead, Taxidermist & Naturalist, Darlington, Co Durham, a full mount adult sitting atop a small tree stump, amidst a natural woodland setting of ferns, moss and fauna, set against a watercolour painted woodland scene back drop, enclosed within an oak framed five-glass picture frame style display case, 25.5cm by 10cm by 48.5cm excluding outer frame, signed to interior lower right
While grey squirrels with a genetic trait known as leucism, which turns their fur a milky-white colour, are very rare, pure albinos are seen even less frequently, with an incidence of one in a million animals, what points to this grey squirrel being pure albino is its distinctive red eyes. A leucistic squirrel would have dark brown ones.
