In fully restored condition. Fairly stiffly relined, cleaned and revarnished. Surface dirt and discoloured varnish now in evidence. The varnish has a fairly high-gloss finish. The paint is somewhat flattened and thin in places as a result of the restoration process. Some general old rubbing and small losses to in particular the top edge as a result of movement in frame, with visible old and discoloured retouching in parts to disguise damage. Further small losses also in evidence along top edge right hand side (see image). Varying sized stable craquelure especially prominent to sky. Slight stretcher shadow. Likley linear strengthening to the dark coloured strands of sheathed corn lying in meandering lines through the foreground, in addition to likely delicate strengthening to outlining and detailing of the standing female figure wearing a bonnet towards receding horizon, the lower parts of the peaked hay stoops and the animals, figures and cart wheels of the distant componants (see images). Some further likely restoration and intervention to the figure group within the foreground and some possible loss of original brushwork and detailing as a result of the restoration process. Signature possibly received a degree of general strengthening. Possible retouches to landscape and vegetation mostly right hand corner. For more information please contact the department.

We cannot guarantee a reply to any requests made within 48 hours of the start of the auction. The absence of a Condition Report from a lot does not mean that the lot is in perfect condition.
