In fully restored condition relined cleaned and re-varnished. The paint is slightly thin and surface is somewhat flattened as a result of restoration. Stretcher shadow. Some light rubbin to edges with a small loss upper left-hand side edge approx 3cm from upper left corner. Some general surface dirt and discoloured varnish and deteriorated varnish with mottled character in places. Some evident restoration and retouching by eye within the background in particular on the gentleman's face. The darker elements and shadows of the gentleman's black collar/neck tie and the edge to his white shirt shows some general strengthening. In addition to some of the strands of his hair at temples and around the forehead. In addition to the background around his right ear. Areas of varying sized cracquelure some more pronounced within the background above and left of the sitter's head. Small fragment encapsulated in paint right of left-hand side edge approx 30cm above lower left-hand corner. Odd other minor nick/abrasion to surface.
