. In fully restored condition, relined, cleaned and re-varnished with a relatively high gloss finish. much of the background, particularly the oval cartouche show extensive retouching and overpainting. there is a relatively minor amount of delicate infilling to two main patches of old flaked paint within the sitters chest area. More extensive cleaning resulting in likely losses and later overpainting is evident consistently throughout the dress and drapery, particularly around areas of creasing and shadow. lightly repaired V shaped repair with associated retouching approx half way down sleeve of the sitters left hand arm and approx 1-1.5cm on each side. the odd very minor retouch evident to old flaked paint within the face which otherwise remains intact. covered in a light layer of dirt and discoloured varnish, subtle stretch shadow especially to right hand side. the paint is flat and thin as a result of the restoration process, most evidently within the background and garland. varying sized stable craquelure throughout , more prominent within the flesh tones. superficial abrasion within centre background left hand side in line with the sitters eyes, odd further circular abrasion top edge centre. slight abrasion to varnish towards lower left hand corner otherwise ina stable and presentable condition.
