. Frame: Carved wood gesso and gilt frame with significant worm holes and various losses (AF) . Notable warping to stretcher effectively bowing in convex fashion. the original canvas , therefore is adrift and worn at several points. reline of some age which has been painted and adds an additional to stiffening aspect to the overall canvas and surface. Covered in a thick layer of dirt and discoloured varnish, bringing a chalky quality particularly to the edges and areas of the varnish appearing opaque in nature around the chair and edges of the figures. The surface has numerous scratches and abrasions some of which have been restored with associated retouching. corners with retouching clearly visible with the naked eye. there is a patch of effectively three linear marks of retouching towards upper left hand corner and approx 7-8cm full length. some general overpainting and in filing to edges or a significant date and throughout background to a degree. further overpainting an strengthening of a likely date throughout the ochre colour of Henrietta's dress and drapery in general. it is likely that the canvas has been in a damp environment resulting in the general state of the canvas, several patches of lifting/craquelure especially throughout the back ground of the right hand side. evident missing areas of flaked paint and also evident areas of deteriated overpainting and restoration, numerous surface scratches and abbrasions. sold AF
