In fully restored condition. Fairly stiffly relined, cleaned, and revarnished. The background shows a fairly comprehensive course of strengthening and overpainting. Finer areas of retouching and restrengthening are evident in the shadows and definition for the ribbon tied to the lady's bonnet. Lightly tear/damage with a prominent patch of overpainting below and centre of the lady's lefthand arm which is approximately 6 by 4 cm and is visible by eye. Some minor rubbings/abrasions to outer edges. Some general flattening to impasto of paint as a result of the restoration process. Some surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Minor superficial slightly diagonal surface scuff towards lower right-hand corner approximately 2 cm in length. Otherwise in a stable state of preservation.

Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.
