1870-79 ½d rose or rose-red, the set of plates mint/unused excepting plate 9. The best original gum are plates 1, 6, 8, 10 and 11. Others dull/disturbed gum or unused. Plate 20 naturally imperf at right. Plate 8 with natural splinter inclusion in the paper at top. Plate 19 somewhat shabby. Otherwise very few if any faults. Cat. £2,990.

Highlights include a specialised collection of St. Helena stamps and postal history, and a very extensive and impressive holding of Russian postal history with a particular focus on the Post Offices Abroad. The latter collector’s interests also extended through the Baltics to excellent Scandinavian Locals, as well as around the Eastern Mediterranean from the Balkans to Palestine and Egypt.
Amongst the postcards offered in the sale are fantastic albums from a dedicated collector, of high-quality and comprehensively assembled, which include transport related cards of Leeds, Skipton, Lancaster, Teesside and Middlesbrough as well as excellent general Yorkshire cards.
