Bowlker (Charles).
The Art of Angling, Greatly Enlarged and Improved; Containing Directions for Fly-Fishing, Trolling, Bottom Fishing, Making Artificial Flies, &c.
Ludlow: Richard Jones, 1833, [6], 154 pages, hand-coloured frontis, the fly section of the book interleaved with blanks to which specimens of trout flies, tied to gut, have been inserted. Twenty-one of the original flies present (of 30+) with several duplicates and later additions. Lengthy 19th century manuscript notes have been added to several blanks and adjacent printed pages. In the species section, the French names of the fish have been added in manuscript. 1873 gift inscription to front free fly leaf. Public library label to front pastedown, no other ex-library evidence found. Original wallet style roan binding (well worn, lacking spine and fore-edge part of flap).
