Fairly consistent fine retouching to old craquelure throughout background. The face, flesh tones and hair have received a much lighter degree of treatment and the central and lower right-hand area of her garment also with a greater degree of restoration including her left cuff which is overpainted. Fine stable craquelure remaining. Cleaned and revarnished. Paint slightly thin in places. Brushwork and detailing better within the lace, flowers and face in general. Out of the frame – the paint on the four corners is thin, rubbed and has losses. The canvas appears to be laid down or an old reline? There is some indentation into possibly wet varnish or paint in upper right-hand edge. Please see associated photographs.

Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.
