A French Silver-Mounted Cut-Glass Scent-Bottle, Maker's Mark G over J With A Device Between, Circa 1870, Probably Retailed by Cartier, the glass body faceted, the openwork mounts engraved with foliage and latticework and formed as tassels, with two cast elephant masks, the hinged cover with a finial cast as a turbaned figure, the lower body with cagework mount, 13cm high A nearly identical scent-bottle, described as 'Cartier Paris 1872', though with the addition of parcel-gilding and turquoise coloured enamel throughout, is in the Cartier Collection. . Marked on cover, lower body mount and tassels, the marks are generally clear. There is some surface scratching and wear to the silver mounts, The lower mounts is not fixed to the glass bottle so is detachable. The hinge pin has moved slightly. One of the ears on each of the elephants has a hole which would originally have held a suspension chain
