A Late 17th Century Provincial Oak Bureau Bookcase, the inverted breakfront pediment above cupboard doors enclosing shelves and a later paper-lined interior depicting Chinese-style blue and white ceramics, the fall front enclosing a fitted interior of pigeon holes and small drawers, the base of two short and two long geometric-moulded drawers

The widest part is at the moulding to the base - 94cm wide. The bureau bookcase is rather tired, with various faults. Old decay and repair to the moulded cornice in various sections. The fall front has later screws added to the hinges. With splits/faults around the hinges also. The left-hand hinge needs attention. Section of moulding missing below the moulded stile (as photographed). Handle and escutcheon marks visible to the cupboards above the fall front. One side of the bureau and the cupboard has been darkened/varnished. Feet are of later date. The bureau bookcase splits in two. Please see further images online.

Auction: The Selected Contents of Bell Hall, 15th Nov, 2024

An eclectic and decorative mixture of antiques and contemporary art will be coming under the hammer this autumn, when the Selected Contents of Bell Hall, Naburn, York, will appear in a single-owner sale at Tennants Auctioneers on 15th November.

The collection was put together over several decades, and draws together good period oak furniture, folk art, 19th century samplers, and Asian art alongside modern and contemporary paintings, ceramics and works of art, many pieces with an animal theme.
