St. Helena

A very pleasing exhibition-style collection in two volumes, the pre-1950 issues displayed over fifty pages, running parallel mint and used from 1856 imperf 6d onwards, including an excellent range of the surcharge types, 1890-97 and 1903 sets both mint and used along with the specimen ovpt sets, further specimen sets including scarce purple handstamp type on 1912 set not listed in SG. Then a wonderful showing of the KGV 'badge' issues incl. first series to £1 mint, second series complete to 15/- mint and 10/- used, the 7/6d mint and used both being the better shade despite mis-labelling here (SG.111d, cat. £1,400 and £2,000), followed by a few pages of the listed flaws on values to 8d, several in plate number pairs. Also the 1934 centenary set mint, 1937 coronation specimen set, reference section incl. dangerous forgery of the 1884 'halfpenny' double surcharge, through to the QEII with watermark varieties, all the booklets, etc. Total catalogue exceeds £20,000. Other than a few minor faults on the classics (incl. small thins on SG.1 mint and SG.2 used), the quality is generally high especially on the key KGV top values where care seems to have been taken to avoid forged postmarks (Lot 124 is not from this collection). Please see below the great postal history part of the collection.
