A Chinese Porcelain Jar, late 16th/early 17th century, of baluster form, painted in underglaze blue with a continuous scene of figures on horseback within formal borders

Good overall condition. No chips or cracks.
Some scratches to the glaze and surface pitting.
Top rim with a brown glaze, rounded and with pitting, the surface material is hard and shows no signs of repair under UV or strong transmitted light, however the form is unusual, no signs of re firing under the base, it is possible that the vase has been cut down and then re finished on the rim, also possible that the neck was damage and reduced during manufacturing.
We are happy to provide Condition Reports to prospective buyers, but would welcome your request as soon as possible, preferably at least 48 hours before the Day of Sale. Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.

Auction: Summer Fine Sale, 13th Jul, 2024
The Summer Fine Sale offers nearly 450 lots of ceramics, Asian art, clocks, rugs, works of art and furniture, including a collection of 19th century Terracotta Campagna Urns from Raby Castle, County Durham, a Lock of Florence Nightingale's Hair, and a French Alabaster Figure Group of the Holy Family, probably made in South West France in the late 14th century. A Private Collection of English Pottery will be offered in twenty-three lots, including numerous Prattware and Creamware figures, and the sale will also include pieces of fine 19th century furniture and good early oak and walnut furniture.
