A Victorian 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword, the 82.5cm single edge fullered steel blade faintly etched with the royal cypher and foliage, by Hawkes & Co., Piccadilly, London, with Proved poincon, the back edge stamped 4999, with nickel plated hilt, wire bound fishskin grip and steel scabbard, 102cm, with rain slip; a George V 1897 Pattern Infantry Officer's Sword, the 82cm single edge fullered steel blade etched with royal cypher and foliage, the nickel plated hilt with wire bound fishskin grip, leather strap for a sword knot - lacking, with pigskin service scabbard and crushed leather rain slip with attached label inscribed in ink ''Major Gordon Home, c/o Westminster Bank, Berners St., London'' (2) Footnote:- Both are believed to have belonged to officers of The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment). The officer owning the George V example transferred to the Royal Flying Corps

1 - Black patching and pitting to the blade, etching quite worn. Small areas of loss and crizzling to the nickel plated hilt. Orange rust pitting to the scabbard, no dents. 2 - Minor black patching to blade. Some rust pitting to hilt where the plate has worn off. Scabbard has a replaced repair to the chape. Rain slip with some surface scuffing.
