Auction: Coins & Banknotes, 8th May, 2024

The Coins and Banknotes Sale on 8th May will showcase a broad and diverse range of lots comprising ancient coins, hammered, early milled, gold and silver bullion, and an interesting banknote section. The sale is expected to attract collectors from all numismatic fields.

Some of the noteworthy lots include a George VI 1937 4-coin gold proof set, one of only 5001 minted, a rare William IV first bust sovereign 1832, and a very pleasing George V 1935 proof crown, one of only 2500 minted. Two rare Tortola counter-stamped cut dollars are also expected to generate a lot of interest, as well as a small collection of Hudson’s Bay Promissory notes, found in an assortment of papers belonging to a family member of a former HBC employee.

The bullion section is well represented with a large number of sovereigns, gold eagles, and Austrian ducats. Finally, the sale boasts an extensive modern proof coin section, featuring collectable Royal Mint coinage, and a substantial collection of Australian, American, Canadian, and British silver bullion coins.
