A Gold Fob-Seal, With Indistinct Mark, Second Half 19th Century, modelled as a hare coursing scene, with a greyhound leaping at a hare, with a suspension loop issuing from the cast branch, the greyhound and hare each with gem-set eyes, the greyhound with further turquoise set collar, two lacking, on rockwork base, the matrix carved with a crest below initials, 30mm high, 23mm wide

The crest is that of Watson, for one of the members of the Watson family of Barnard Castle. The family were the proprietors of W. I. Watson solicitors.

There is only an indistinct mark on the suspension ring. There is some surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There are two turquoises lacking from the collar of the greyhound, not one as noted in the description in the printed catalogue. There are some surface scratches and wear, consistent with age and use. The back legs of the hound are shorter than the front legs and are perhaps partly lacking. There is a small crack to one side of the matrix.
