A 19th Century Austral Islands Finely Carved Wood Paddle, of unusually large proportions, the leaf shaped blade slightly concave to one side with raised medial ridge, finely carved with concentric sun motifs and diamond, the opposing side carved with horizontal bands of V and scallop motifs, the cylindrical haft all over carved with diamond motifs, the swollen pommel carved around the edge with eight stylised heads wearing alternating headdresses, 135.5cm long, blade 29cm at its widest part.

. The blade has four small chips to the edges which are hardly noticeable. Three of the heads at the pommel have chips to the headdress.
