In fully restored condition. Stiffly relined, cleaned and revarnished with high gloss finish. General retouching and strengthening through the hair, across the shadow of the Eagle's beak, child's left upper arm. Throughout the head of the Eagle and to a lesser extent along the back of the bird and again more concentrated to denote the shadows around the hands and fingers. Retouching and overpainting to background with more defined patch to area below left arm with general strengthening to the outline of the left arm. Evident vertical repair to canvas with associated retouching running from just below the right ear to meet with the forefinger and approx. 5-6cm in length. Widely spaced stable craquelure throughout. Canvas slightly lifting to upper left hand side. Some general minor abrasions to edges. Surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Minor horizontal crack or damage to background, no more than 1cm in length, approx. 2-3cm above the Eagle's left wing etc...

We are happy to provide Condition Reports to prospective buyers, but would welcome your request as soon as possible, preferably at least 48 hours before the Day of Sale. We cannot guarantee a reply to any requests made within 48 hours of the start of the auction. The absence of a Condition Report from a lot does not mean that the lot is in perfect condition. All lots are available on public view ahead of an auction and we encourage prospective buyers to inspect an item in person where possible. Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.
