The facial features and the treatment of the hair with the hair ornament relate to a number of heads from the Longmen Caves in Henan Provence, China. Commencing in the Northern Wei Dynasty and continuing through the Tang Dynasty, the Longmen Caves are regarded as some of the finest examples of Chinese Buddhistic art. The 2,345 caves are believed to contain approximately 100,000 statues, ranging in height from 25mm to 17m.

The Summer Fine Sale offers nearly 450 lots of ceramics, Asian art, clocks, rugs, works of art and furniture, including a collection of 19th century Terracotta Campagna Urns from Raby Castle, County Durham, a Lock of Florence Nightingale's Hair, and a French Alabaster Figure Group of the Holy Family, probably made in South West France in the late 14th century. A Private Collection of English Pottery will be offered in twenty-three lots, including numerous Prattware and Creamware figures, and the sale will also include pieces of fine 19th century furniture and good early oak and walnut furniture.
