Pair of 19th Century Carved Wood Polychrome Figures of ladies in continental dress, with moulded hair painted features, both 27cm, pair of plaster arms and pair of velvet espadrilles with 'Capri' stitched to the inside

; belonged to the vendor's step-grandfather, the artist Fortunino Matania, believed to have been made by him, together with a photograph of him at his work table making dolls

Figures have previously been on a plinth as holes to soles. Yellow skirt figure - crack across forehead, paint flakes, crazing to face, small holes to back of head, split above the ankle on one foot, scuffing to toes as shoes. Pink skirt figure - paint flakes, wear to end of nose, one finger on right hand appears small, paint flakes, split to front of leg and scuffing to shoes.
