A Gold and Enamel Crucifix Pendant
Probably Spanish, First Half 17th Century

the cross on circular base, enamelled with a black flower head, the rough cross with notches, the white enamel figure of Christ with part pierced nimbus and above a part white enamelled skull, the reverse with shaped oval cartouche enamelled in red with a stylised representation of the five stigmata within white enamel border, with suspension ring and on short wirework chain
the crucifix 60mm high including suspension ring, total gross weight 13dwt, 20.6gr

The collection of Phyllis Phillips, née Bray (1911-1991) and by descent to her son Anthony Phillips.
The collection of the late Anthony Phillips (1945-2024).

The chain and the crucifix each test as approximately 18 carat, with the chain testing just above and the crucifix testing just below. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There is some damage, mostly minor, to the enamel in places
