Circa 1857 'Crimean Hero' Banqueting Cloth, a linen damask cloth woven to commemorate victory in the Crimean War, edged with a band of portrait medallions depicting Royal Heads of State, Military Commanders, Politicians and others connected with the War, also bearing Royal coats of arms and Turkish Tugrahs, various insignia, emblems, reserves of martial honours and battle honours, manufactured and bearing woven signature of D Dewar & Sons, Dunfermline & London, initialled 'HCM', dated 1881 (in pen), 225cm by 445cm

The named medallions depict (clockwise from the head): HM Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, Lord Raglan, Marshal St Arnaud, Florence Nightingale Marshal Bosquet, King Victor Emmanuel II, Gen Sir George Brown, Gen Alfonso La Marmora, Lord Cardigan, Admiral Bruat, Prince Napoleon, Emperor Napoleon III, Empress Eugenie, William Simpson, Marshal Pelissier, Gen Sir George de Lacy Evans, Gen Sir William Williams, Sultan Abdul Medjid, Gen Omer Pasha, Marshal Canrobert, Field Marshal Colin Campbell, Admiral Sir Algernon Lyons, The Duke of Cambridge. Some slight browning down the folds towards one end, and a couple of tiny areas of wear. It has been used and washed as it is lacking the shiny starched look of new damask. Some marks along the folds.
