A Taxidermy Cased Red-Tailed Hawk, (Buteo jamaicensis), circa 1883, full mount stood upon a large painted faux rock with wings outstretched, amongst a naturalistic setting of ferns, brush and tall grasses, against a watercolour painted back board, enclosed within an ebonised period style three-glass display case, 55.5cm by 28cm by 66cm

The Red-Tailed Hawk is one of three species colloquially known in the USA as the "Chickenhawk" . It breeds throughout most of North America from Alaska and Northern Canada to as far south as Panama and the West Indies and is one of the most common buteos in North America

case and bird has been fully restored, legs and beak have been repainted, original groundwork has been restored , new case with fresh paint and new taping to the glass. originally from a dilapidated old case, 22/03/17
