In an overall good state of preservation, covered in a thin layer of surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Approx centre of front beach hut has an incongruous and amended area to the surface which looks to be a broadly rectangular section which has been infilled on the left-hand side whereas the right-hand side appears to have conversely a section removed and therefore the overall effect is paper? sitting on top of the surface left-hand side and section removed right-hand side. This would appear to be contemporary with execution and the plausible brushwork remains evident. Please see image.
We are happy to provide Condition Reports to prospective buyers, but would welcome your request as soon as possible, preferably at least 48 hours before the Day of Sale. We cannot guarantee a reply to any requests made within 48 hours of the start of the auction. The absence of a Condition Report from a lot does not mean that the lot is in perfect condition. A Condition Report is an honest expression of our opinion, not a statement of fact and is provided as a service to the seller. All lots are available on public view ahead of an auction and we encourage prospective buyers to inspect an item in person where possible. Our Condition Reports are not prepared by professional conservators, restorers, or engineers, and are prepared with the naked eye unless otherwise stated.
Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.
We accept no liability for the opinions expressed in any Condition Report.
Auction: Line, Colour and Form, A Private Collection, 26th Feb, 2022
A Private Collection of mid to late 20th century paintings, prints, ceramics and sculpture are being sold in the single-owner sale Line, Colour and Form at Tennants Auctioneers on 26th February. Thoughtfully put together over the course of thirty years by collectors in the North East of England, the 125 lot collection is unified by a love of line, colour and form.
Each piece in the collection has been carefully selected, the discerning eye of the collectors’ choosing pieces on their artistic merit rather than by collecting particular artists. This has resulted in a disparate yet harmonious collection that includes works both by internationally celebrated artists such as David Hockney and lesser-known local artists.
