An intriguing accumulation in an old suitcase, leather briefcase and various boxes, thousands of 19th century to mid-20th century stamps and hundreds of covers, the balance of an original estate (see also Lots 48, 49, 54, 104, 151-156 and 190). Includes over a dozen albums, mainly a homemade kind in which noted duplicated QV Canada, useful India and USA, and much GB line-engraved mostly by sheet positions from 1d red imperfs onwards, as well as 2d blues, postmark study on later reds, etc. Also two 'Ideal' volumes one better-filled than the other, a very pleasant 'Strand' album with loose GB 1949 2/6d brown and 10/- dark blue MNH. In the suitcase several hundred covers packed in shirt boxes where we note 1830s crowned circle pmk, line-engraved, postage dues, Egypt, OHMS and war-time mail, India, Germany 1890s to 1920s, etc, the collector clearly a postal history enthusiast. Another old box has 1000s of stamps in bundles and quantities mainly QV Cyprus and KGV issues of Nigeria, Gold Coast and Sierra Leone, plus Latin America. Will be much here to find in this vintage desk-clearance.

261 lots including several exciting original collections fresh to the market. Highlights include a specialised collection of St. Helena stamps and postal history, and a very extensive and impressive holding of Russian postal history with a particular focus on the Post Offices Abroad. The latter collector’s interests also extended through the Baltics to excellent Scandinavian Locals, as well as around the Eastern Mediterranean from the Balkans to Palestine and Egypt.
Amongst the postcards offered in the sale are fantastic albums from a dedicated collector, of high-quality and comprehensively assembled, which include transport related cards of Leeds, Skipton, Lancaster, Teesside and Middlesbrough as well as excellent general Yorkshire cards.
