Circa 1885 Lewis & Allenby Cloak Makers to the Queen, Regent Street Kashmir Dolman Cape, in red and gold wool woven with stylised palmettes, yellow silk quilted lining, short sleeves, collar, front opening, cuffs and hem are all edged with brown feathers

Lewis & Allenby were one of the largest silk mercers in London, having premises on Regent Street and Conduit Street, they were renowned for their high-quality goods and sold garments to Queen Victoria, who granted them the right to state on their label 'Cloak Makers to the Queen'
The Dolman was a popular shape in the 1880s designed to accommodate the extending bustles of high fashion during this period. It would have draped gracefully around the body, creating a sinuous body shape
