A William IV Silver Christening Mug
by Joseph and John Angell, London, 1834

centrally waisted and on spreading foliage stamped foot, the lower body stamped with foliage below chased scenes of buildings in landscapes, later engraved with the coat-of-arms of Newcastle and an inscription, with leaf-capped scroll handle

Marked near handle. The marks are generally clear. There is some wear to the marks. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. The wear is noticeable as a minor softening to the high points. The cartouche has been later engraved over an erasure. The surface is thin in this area and there is a split and some surface unevenness. The inscription reads 'Fred Gail Davies from Richard Gail Mayor of Newcastle August 1880'.
