A Victorian Silver Inkstand
by William Ker Reid, London, 1837

shaped oblong and on four robustly cast foliage, flower and rocaille feet, with a similar border and shell-cast grips, with a central tapering container with detachable taper-candlestick cover and with two silver-mounted cut-glass bottles, engraved with a Latin inscription
40.5cm wide, weighable silver 76oz 1dwt, 2,365gr

The inscription reads 'Viro Reverendo Roberto Gordon Andrews A.M. Schole Granthamiensis XXII Annos Archididascalo D.D. Alumni Quos Olim Diligenter Erudivit A.D. MCCCCXXXVIII'.

Fully marked under base, on taperstick and on the mounts of each bottle. The central container, two supports for the bottles, extinguisher and bottle covers each further part marked. The marks are generally clear. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use. There are some small areas of foliage lacking on the stem of the taperstick and some bruising to the extinguisher. There are some chips to the glass bottles.
