X A Victorian Provincial Silver Teapot
by John Walton, Newcastle, 1838

tapering cylindrical and on four shell-cast feet, with reeded rim, the hinged cover with foliage and melon finial, with leaf-capped ivory-insulated handle, later engraved with initials

Fully marked near rim. Further part marked on handle and inside cover. There is some wear to the marks, particularly to the marks on the handle. There is some overall surface scratching and wear, consistent with age and use as well as some surface unevenness. There is a repair to the cover hinge and some cracking and discolouration to the ivory insulators. The engraved initials are later and possible over an erasure. There is the remains of an engraved inscription underneath which is only just visible.
