A Victorian Silver Claret-Jug
by Edward Farrell, London, 1846

tapering cylindrical and on spreading base, the sides chased with vases of flowers and grotesque masks with panels of foliage and flowers between, the hinged cover with wrythen knop, the scroll handle cast with a female bust, chased below the spout with a mask, engraved with an inscription
30.5cm high, 30oz 10dwt, 949gr

The inscription reads 'Presented to Richard James Ward, Esquire October 1848 by the Gentlemen Forming The Resident Engineering Staff of the Wilts and Somerset Railway In Testimony of their most Sincere Esteem and Truly High Consideration'.
