A Carved and Joined Oak and Marquetry-Inlaid Court Cupboard, with ivorine label FROM THE BREADALBANE APARTMENTS, THE PALACE OF HOLYROOD HOUSE and paper label Bought at Taymouth Castle / FROM THE MARQUIS OF BREADALBANE’S APARTMENTS / AT HOLYROOD PALACE / May 16 1860, the moulded and bordered top above a dentil and nulled frieze on carved and turned bulbous supports with a long frieze drawer, the base with two further carved bulbous supports above a nulled frieze, on compressed bun feet, early 17th century and later

Quenby Hall, Leicestershire, in the possession of the Ashby family for 800 years, sold in 1904 to Rosamund, widow of Edward Seymour-Greaves and who subsequently married Lord Henry Grosvenor. During this time Quenby was restored and much of the Jacobean furniture reinstated. The estate was sold to Sir Harold Nutting 1924 who lived there until his death in 1972. On his death the contents were sold by Christie’s on the premises (23-25 October) and many lots would purchased by the new owner of Quenby, Squire de Lisle

There is some movement in the joints in the timber used for the back supports. The drawer linings are made from old timber. Some old decay visible on the carved bulbous supports.
