Silver Gilt Replica of the Historic First Seal of Eton College, by Avril Vaughan, based on the wax original of 1446 (destroyed by fire in 1474). Henry VI founded Eton College in 1440 & dedicated the College to the Virgin Mary. The seal depicts the Coronation of the Virgin Mary in the centre of the Seal & standing on a shield bearing the Arms of Eton, two angels placing a crown on her head & others holding shields depicting the Arms of France & the Arms of England; on the reverse is a quotation from 'A History of the English-Speaking Peoples' by Winston Churchill describing the death of Henry V and the passing of the crown to his infant son, Henry VI; diameter 70mm, wt. 204g Britannia silver (.958 silver), edge hallmarked, in case of issue, as struck
