An Early 19th Century Cotton Coverlet, comprising a central square enclosing a small sampler to the centre depicting Adam and Eve, worked by Martha Curchin, dated 1826, within a zig zag appliqué frame, surrounded by flowers and animal appliqués, then frames comprising diamond shapes and triangular patches to the border, on a cream ground cotton cloth incorporating a piece of utilitarian fabric, 210cm by 260cm,

There were numerous Curchins recorded around the Newark area, which was where the vendor purchased both coverlet and sampler. Lot 2144 comes from the same vendor.

Several of the brown dyes have worn/perished, or with holes. Some staining and water damage towards the bottom of the coverlet, some areas of slight discolouration overall, some fading. Some brown 'burn?' marks visible to the reverse - see images, some modern patches added,
