A Decorative Band Sampler Worked by Martha Hayter Dated 1741, worked on linen in coloured threads showing bands of decorative motifs, flowers, to the middle of the sampler are four silk embroidered gentlemen each holding a flower aloft for his lover, known as 'boxers' as look as if they are ready for a fight with their uplifted arms, a verse to the lower part 'Martha Hayter her Sampler Finished August The 12th 1741, In my end when i would have slept in perfect place and so commanded my thoughts to Christ?', in a later gilt frame, 27cm by 53cm
