By Lasselaz: A Circa 1880's Pale Pink Mother-of-Pearl Fan, the monture extravagantly carved and pierced, silvered and gilded, cherubs playing in a vignette on the upper guards, and three vignettes to the gorge, those to the side featuring two cherubs chasing gilded birds, the one to the centre showing a cherub with paintbrush in front of an easel, another watching and two more in flight entangled in flower garlands. Backed with thin mother-of-pearl. The double velum leaf is painted with a young country couple by a stone fountain, a cherub leaning on the lion spout, an old woman preparing to spin thread, accompanied by a seated white cat, and a young boy by a beanstalk, bawling and rubbing his eyes as he appears to have dropped and broken a pot. Signed for Lazellaz beside him, in red.
The verso is bordered with classical designs in gold, and bears the large entwined initials MC. Signed to the left side border "Ernest Kees".
Guard length 11 inches or 28cm

Sold for £850
Estimated at £500 - £750

. In generally good order, good colour, the elaborate MOP appears intact. The folds are rubbed and the first fold in to the left has a major crease.

We are happy to provide Condition Reports to prospective buyers, but would welcome your request as soon as possible, preferably at least 48 hours before the Day of Sale. We cannot guarantee a reply to any requests made within 48 hours of the start of the auction. The absence of a Condition Report from a lot does not mean that the lot is in perfect condition. A Condition Report is an honest expression of our opinion, not a statement of fact and is provided as a service to the seller. All lots are available on public view ahead of an auction and we encourage prospective buyers to inspect an item in person where possible. Our Condition Reports are not prepared by professional conservators, restorers, or engineers, and are prepared with the naked eye unless otherwise stated.

Regarding Pictures, Prints and Works on Paper, works are not examined out of the frame, unless specifically stated. Tennants Auctioneers do not cover damage to gilded wood or plaster picture frames, or to picture frame glass whilst the item is in our possession.

We accept no liability for the opinions expressed in any Condition Report.
